Kävin itsenäisen opiskelun viikolla (=hiihtolomalla) kaveriporukan kanssa pienellä 5 päivän reissulla Amsterdamissa tervehtimässä kaveriamme, joka on siellä vaihdossa sekä vähän tutustumassa meille jokaiselle uuteen kaupunkiin. Lähdettiin Kuopiosta viideltä aamulla lauantaina suuntanamme Helsinki-Vantaan lentokenttä. Edellisenä yönä unet olivat jääneet vähiin niin minulla kuin myös muillakin matkatovereillamme. Omaa ihanaa untani häiriköivät ulkona humalassa huutavat miehet, joiden huutaminen kuului seitsemänteen kerrokseen asti. Ihanaa asua keskustassa...

During my independent study week (=winter holiday) me and my friends went on a tiny 5 day trip to Amsterdam to see our friend, who's doing her exchange there and to see a new city. We left Kuopio at five in the Saturday morning, headed to the Helsinki-Vantaa airport. The previous night none of us had had the pleasure to sleep that well. In my case I have drunken men to thank for that, who yelled outside so loud that I could hear it all the way to the seventh floor. I love living in downtown..

Päästiin kuitenkin turvallisesti perille lentokentälle ja suunnattiin turvatarkastuksen jälkeen matkatavaroittemme kanssa nappaamaan jotain syötävää. Tietenkin tyypilliseen tapaan kaikki ei mennyt ihan suunnitelmien mukaan ja meidän lento myöhästyi. Loppujen lopuksi se ei onneks kuitenkaan ollut puoltatuntia pidempään myöhässä ja päästiin vihdoinkin lentokoneeseen ja suuntaamaan Amsterdamin Schipholin lentokentälle.

However we got safely to the airport and headed to eat something with our hand luggage after the security check. Of course in a typical manner, the flight was late. In the end it was thankfully only half an hour late though and we finally got to the airplane and started heading towards Amsterdam's Schiphol airport. 

Lentokentällä meitä olikin vastassa ihana ystävämme, joka auttoi meitä pääsemään junalla meidän hotellille De Pijpin alueelle. Hotelli ei ollut päärautatieasemalta onneksi kauhean kaukana, mutta ihmisten määrä ja pilven haju alkoi kyllä käymään meidän väsyneen matkaseurueen hermoille. Onneksi päästiin hotellille kuitenkin aika nopeasti ja ei kauheasti eksyttykään, koska meillä oli ihana ja luotettava Google Maps meidän oppaana.

At the airport our lovely friend was waiting for us to help us get to our hotel at the De Pijp are by train. The hotel wasn't thankfully too far away from the Centraal Station, but the crowds of people and the smell of weed started to get on our tired travel group's nerves. Fortunately we got to the hotel quite fast and didn't get lost that much either, but only because we had our wonderful and trustworthy Google Maps as our guide.



Hotellilla levättiin jonkin aikaa, kunnes nälkä ja tylsyys pakottivat meidät ylös sängyistä. Suunnattiin siis etsimään ruokaa ja vähän tutkimaan meidän ympäristöä. Päädyttiin vaan loppujen lopuks sitten ostamaan ruokaa ruokakaupasta ja syötiin nopeasti hotellilla ennen kun suunnattiin takaisin tutkimaan ympäristöä. Löydettiin itsemme sitten eräänlaiselta baarikadulta, jossa käytiin paikallisessa baarissa nappaamassa oluet. Tässä vaiheessa väsymys alkoi lamauttamaan osaa meidän seurueesta, joten suunnattiin takaisin hotellille. Muutamalla meidän seurueesta oli kuitenkin vielä kiinnostusta lähteä tutkimaan yöelämää vähän tarkemmin, mutta itse en siihen seuraan enää millään jaksanut liittyä.

At the hotel we rested for a while until hunger and boredom forced us to get out of our beds. So we headed to find food and to explore our surroundings. In the end we just ended up buying foor from the grocery store and ate quickly at the hotel before heading back to explore more. We found ourselves from some kind of a bar street, where we grabbed beers from a local bar. At this point fatigue started to overpower people from our group, so we headed back to the hotel. Few people from the group however wanted to go explore the night life a bit more, but I was too tired to join them. 

Seuraavina päivinä käytiin syömässä todella paljon erilaisissa ravintoloissa, muunmuassa korealaisessa ravintolassa sekä burgerijointissa, ja seikkailtiin ympäriämpäri Amsterdamia. Ei kauheasti käyty missään turistinähtävyyksissä iamsterdam-kylttiä ja punaisten lyhtyjen aluetta lukuunottamatta. Alasta kiinnostuneina käytiin myös tsekkaamassa meidän hotellin vieressä ollut Heineken Experience, joka kyllä oikeasti oli aikamoinen kokemus, vieläpä mahtava sellainen. Suosittelen käymään, mikäli sellaisesta on hiemankaan kiinnostunut. Reissun aikana käytiin myös kissamuseossa, joka oli loppujen lopuksi ikävä kyllä aikamoinen pettymys. Tarttui sieltä kuitenkin mukaan yksi kissa-aiheinen juliste, jonka ripustan meidän olkkarin seinälle kunhan aikaiseksi joskus saan.

In the following days we went to eat to various restaurants, korean restaurant and burgerjoint amongst other places, and ventured around Amsterdam. We didn't really go to that many tourist sights besides iamsterdam-sign and red light district. And since we all have quite similar area of interest, we also went to check out Heineken Experience that was right next to our hotel, and it truly was quite an experience, a really mighty one if I may add. I definitely recommend visiting if you're even a little bit of interested. During the trip we also visited the cat museum, which was unfortunately quite a disappointment in the end. I did find a cat themed poster from there, which I'll put to our living room wall as soon as I have the time. 



Hauska juttu tässä reissussa muuten oli se, että kolme päivää viidestä vietettiin tatuointistudiossa nimeltään Amsterdam Ink Your Skin. Tämä johtui siitä, että meillä tapahtui eräänlainen ketjureaktio. Ensin Kaveri 1 sai idean käydä ottamassa itselleen kuudennen tatuoinnin, jolloin Kaveri 2 ja 3 myös innostuivat ajatuksesta ja kun Kaveri 1 meni ottamaan tatuoinnin, päätti Kaveri 5 myöskin ottaa itselleen tatuoinnin. Ja näin me sitten vietettiin yli puolet reissustamme tatuointistudiossa. Mutta en valita, miun kavereiden tatuoinneista tuli ihan älyttömän hienoja ja sain mahdollisuuden ekaa kertaa elämässäni vaan hengailla tatuointistudiolla ja nähdä miten kaikki toimii.

The funny thing about this trip was btw the fact that we spent three days out of five at tattoo parlour called Amsterdam Ink Your Skin. This was because a kind of an chain reaction happened. First Friend 1 had an idea to get herself a sixth tattoo, when Friend 2 and 3 also got excited about it and when Friend 1 went to get her tattoo, Friend 4 decided to get a tattoo for himself as well. And so we spent over half of our trip at a tattoo parlour. But I'm not complaining, the tattoos my friends got ended up being really amazing and I had the chance to hang out at a tattoo parlour and to see how everything goes for the first time ever. 

Kaikessa laajuudessaan matka oli aivan mahtava ja Amsterdam oli todella kaunis kaupunki. Vaikka välillä pilven haju tuntui leijailevan kokoajan ilmassa, niin kaikki ne rakennukset kyllä korvasivat sitä kauneudellaan. Aion tulevaisuudessa vielä joskus vierailla uudestaan Amsterdamissa, koska tuntuu että en nyt vielä päässyt näkemään ihan kaikkea vaikka aika paljon jo näinkin. Ens kerralla haluaisin myös päästä kanaaliajelulle ja ehkä myös seikkailla Amsterdamin ulkopuolella.

All in all the trip was amazing and Amsterdam was a really beautiful city. Even though sometimes the smell of weed felt like it was in the air all the time, the buildings compensated with their beautifulness. In the future I'm planning on visiting Amsterdam again, because it feels like I still have so much to see there. Next time I also want to go to a canal cruise and maybe explore outside of Amsterdam as well.
